A Run Worth a Record with a Miracle in Tow: UPDATE
On October 21, 2017, K and Crew ran the Go Commando half-marathon with the triple stroller in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) time for the event. KaLea ran the half in 1:51:12 while pushing her youngest 3 kiddos. All proceeds went directly to the Children's Miracle Network fund at Monre Carell Jr. Children's Hospital. CMN raises awareness for 170 member hospitals and funds critical medical treatment.
The Inspiration for our CMN PUSH
On February 22, 2012, at 4:45 a.m. our daughter Mia was sent to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital by Life Flight. She caught a Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), a common respiratory virus that causes cold-like symptoms and is dangerous for infants. Mia was barely breathing and nearly lifeless when the critical care team arrived.
Amazing people from Immaculate Conception School and military friends brought meals and sat with us through the 10 days Mia spent at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. This half marathon run with a triple stroller GWR record attempt and fundraising campaign is our thank you for Vanderbilt Children’s and the amazing people that rallied around us through those terrifying days. Thank you for helping care for Mia in these frightening moments and my mom who held down our fort. You will always have a special place in our hearts.
